Founded in 1995, Fitz Roy Expediciones has guided small groups through the mountains of El Chaltén for more than three decades. Our work comes from local knowledge, quiet movement and a deep respect for the Fitz Roy Massif.
For more than four decades we’ve explored these mountains season after season. The routes below are not simply our tours—they are the trails that shaped our story.
Campamento Poincenot is the traditional base camp for hikers and climbers exploring Laguna de los Tres and the Fitz Roy Massif in Los Glaciares National Park. Surrounded by native lenga forest at the foot of Mount Fitz Roy, it offers the unique opportunity to experience Patagonia after the day hikers have returned to El Chaltén.
From here, the final ascent to Laguna de los Tres begins before sunrise, allowing us to reach one of Patagonia’s most iconic viewpoints as the first light illuminates the granite peaks. During our guided treks, Fitz Roy Expediciones provides all camping equipment while our local guides take care of the logistics and safety throughout the journey.
Based on hundreds of reviews from hikers who have explored Patagonia with our local guides.
Patagonia changes every day, and some stories simply can’t be told through an itinerary.
In the Fitz Roy Expediciones Journal, we share the knowledge gained from more than three decades of exploring the trails of El Chaltén. Here you’ll find articles about trekking, mountaineering, local history, wildlife, weather, recommended gear, and the landscapes that make this region truly unique.
Our Journal is designed to help you plan your journey with confidence, better understand the mountains you’ll be exploring, and discover a deeper side of Patagonia through the experience of people who have lived and worked in these mountains for many years.
