From the great communications and organisation provided by Carolina, to the guiding expertise of Pablo (Equa) and Antonio (Tony). We had the best time in an amazing location - the highlight of a 3.5 week trip to South Amercia IMHO! The organisation, leadership, expertise, communication, comradery, and laughter were just outstanding. We started off as clients, and left as friends! Muy bueno!! Thanks so much 😀 DW (Parawai Tramping Club - New Zealand).Posted on Tripadvisor A.MorfVerified Via Ferrata and Cagliero Glacier I did the Cagliero Glacier Trek with them and I thought it was amazing 😍 First we did a hike up to the via Ferrata through a fairy forest and with great views of the Diablo’s river and the surrounding mountains 🧙♀️ The walk is not crazy hard (slightly uphill on good paths) but to ensure that we have enough time on the glacier they don’t really make stops (still was doable) After we got our gear (like helmet and harness) we climbed along the via Ferrata to the glacier I was a bit afraid at first but thanks to the professionalism of the guides and the beauty of the Laguna del Diablo that was quickly forgotten 😈 Just before the glacier the guides strapped on our crampons so we could enjoy a nice lunch and walk on the glacier (just wished that would have been longer)😎 Then we did the whole thing backwards again to get back 🙃 It was a long and challenging day but absolutely worth it 😍😍😍 that was one of my favorite days of my whole trip 🥰🥰🥰 truly amazing A special thanks to our two English speaking guides 😘😘😘 You guys were funny kind and amazing thank you 😘😘😘Posted on Tripadvisor PedroVerified La mejor excursión de mi vida En las oficinas de Fitz Roy Expediciones nos atendió muy amablemente Carolina y nos explicó en qué consistían las excursiones. Excellent trip! Whilst an expensive trip, we thoroughly enjoyed the full day trip. Pick up from their office opposite Chalten Suites at 10.30, driven appx 45 mins to Laguna Condor where the excellent guides (2 for a group of 6), provided the kit. Excellent quality, wetsuit, neoprene jacket, over jacket, water proof booties and gloves. Helmet also provided as protection from bank side trees if you stray too close. Stayed warm throughout but luckily didn’t capsize so didn’t test the effectiveness. Very thorough safety briefing and detailed plan of what to expect. Having done trips like this previously, I thought they really reassured any nervous people that they were in very good hands. Easy start getting use to the conditions and then off you go to enjoy a beautiful section of the river for the next few hours. All along the way very clear instructions are provided by the lead guide of where to position the kayak and what to expect of the water. Scenery is fantastic of course but seeing it from a very different vantage point. Stop off for coffee and cake (excellent apple pie) / lunch (not included) before rejoining for the final few km’s of easy paddling to El Chalten. Guide will tow you if you struggle or get tired and always one guide at the rear to assist. A couple of people capsized and the guide quickly assisted, however the river isn’t actually that deep so you can stand up if current not too strong. Finished at 16.30 with a short walk back to shop. Changing facilities provided both ends as is a wet bag for you to have on the kayak for your lunch, drinks, small personal items. They provide a bigger bag for your dry clothes and shoes that get driven back from the start point for you to change back into. This isn’t for high end adrenaline junkies looking for rapids but makes a great change to hiking and would suit most people. Paddling is moderately difficult in certain small sections but the guide will help if you struggle. They also day half day trip, if you wish. It is expensive but what isn’t in el Chalten.....relative of course. Posted on Tripadvisor Amy NVerified EXHILARATING ADVENTURE!! We did the Ice Trekking Cagliero Glacier and it was a triathlon of exciting and breathtaking adventure! We had amazing guides- lead by Nacho, and Lucas was his assistant. There were 8 people total in our group, including my husband, sister- and brother-in-law, and me. Nacho was extremely helpful and explained everything quite thoroughly- in both English and Spanish. First, we did a pleasant 4.8k trek through the Los Huemules Ranch- forested area following the Diablo River upstream to the Diablo Lagoon that took about 2 hours. Second comes the “via Ferrara” part involving rock climbing, repelling, and horizontal navigation of the terrain just above the lagoon, working our way up to Cagliero Glacier. I have very little experience in rock climbing with carabiner clips, cables, and belts, but Nacho and Lucas helped us with all the equipment and made sure we understood how to use everything. This part took about an hour, and I’m not sure exactly how far it was- I was really concentrating on keeping my bearings and appreciating each accomplishment of reaching the next level, and it was challenging for me due to my inexperience. Once we reached the bottom of the glacier, there were two igloo-like huts where we traded our rock climbing gear for Crampons to approach and navigate Cagliero Glacier- part 3 of the triathlon. Walking on the Glacier was something I will never forget! Seeing the crevices and water flowing over, under and through the ice up close was absolutely stunning! We paused for lunch, which we brought ourselves, but I will say it was rather windy and several times I had to stop and lower myself to avoid being blown over. The wind was unpredictable and at times would gust upwards of about 60mph...but that’s Patagonia for you!!! We ended up leaving the Glacier a little early due to the gusting winds and headed back to the huts where we all went inside to get out of the weather and have some tea, coffee, and cookies. I must add that although I have never experienced wind like that, it was NOT really cold. I wore a long-sleeved t-shirt the entire journey and only put on my weatherproof jacket once we were on the Glacier for wind protection. We had worked up a sweat up until that point and the cooler air on the Glacier was a little chilly, but not as cold as I expected. We all enjoyed the little break and each other’s company before we headed back out to work the route in reverse. We arrived back at our hotel around 6pm- total of about 10 hours including transportation and they picked us up and dropped us off right at our hotel. I had a wonderful time pushing myself passed my comfort levels through each part of this experience. It was physically challenging for me. I am a 50-year-old woman, and I’m pretty active (I did an Ironman 70.3 about 6 months ago), so I would advise to anyone of any age that is looking into this activity to be rather physically fit to get the most enjoyment out of it. I would love to do this expedition again and highly recommend to anyone traveling to El Chalten! Enjoy! And THANK YOU to Nacho and Lucas for making it a fun and memorable experience!Posted on Tripadvisor Greg SVerified Wonderful El Chalten guide - Sol Giadorou For 3 days, Sol Giadorou from Fitz Roy Expediciones was an absolutely wonderful guide for my wife and I. As a guide, she is knowledgeable, patient, and flexible. As a person, she is one of the most impressive people we have ever met. Friendly, energetic, warm, funny, and full of life. My wife talked me into hiring a guide, and it was a great decision. Sol and El Chalten were the highlights of our trip to Patagonia.
