Custom Patagonia Trekking & Private Mountain Guides

Build your Patagonia journey with the people who have been exploring these mountains for decades.

The best itinerary depends on how many days you have, the season, your hiking experience and even the weather during your stay.

Guided by People Who Live These Mountains

Throughout those years, Fitz Roy Expediciones became part of the evolution of mountain guiding in Patagonia, helping generations of visitors experience landscapes that, at the time, remained almost unknown outside Argentina.

There is no perfect Patagonia itinerary.

Not because the mountains aren’t extraordinary, but because every person arrives here looking for something different.

Some visitors have dreamed for years about standing beneath Fitz Roy.

Others are looking for a quieter trail, a few days camping in the backcountry, a glacier they’ve seen in an old photograph or simply an honest recommendation from someone who knows these mountains beyond a map.

After decades working in Patagonia, we’ve learned that listening is usually the best place to begin.

Before suggesting a route, we’d rather understand your journey.

How much time do you have?

Who are you travelling with?

What kind of experience are you hoping to take home?

Those answers matter far more than choosing the most famous hike.

Why Fitz Roy Expediciones?

Planning a journey through Patagonia is about much more than choosing a trail. Weather, mountain conditions, logistics and timing all play a role in shaping your experience.

Fitz Roy Expediciones has been based in El Chaltén since 1995, building on a story that began when our founder, Alberto del Castillo, first arrived here in 1985. Over the decades, he became one of the pioneers of mountain guiding in the region, helping open routes, explore remote valleys and share Patagonia with travelers from around the world.

Today, that same philosophy continues with the next generation. Josefina del Castillo, who grew up in El Chaltén, now leads the company alongside a team of experienced local mountain guides who continue working in Patagonia every season.

Many of our guides hold internationally recognised certifications, including UIMLA, and several also guide in mountain regions around the world before returning home each season. This combination of local knowledge and international experience allows us to adapt every journey to the people, the conditions and the mountains themselves.

While many visitors come to Patagonia to see Fitz Roy, we’ve always believed the region has much more to offer. Beyond its iconic peaks are quiet valleys, lesser-known trails, glaciers and landscapes where Patagonia still feels wild. We believe that exploring these places not only creates a richer experience, but also helps preserve the character of the region by encouraging a more balanced and respectful way of travelling.

Whether you’re joining one of our scheduled departures or planning a completely personalised adventure, our goal remains the same today as it was when the company was founded: to help you experience Patagonia with honesty, local knowledge and genuine respect for the mountains.
