Some places in Patagonia are discovered by following the crowds. Paso del Cuadrado is not one of them.
Our day begins with a private transfer from El Chaltén to Puente Eléctrico, where we leave the road behind and enter a landscape that quickly becomes quieter and wilder. The trail climbs through ancient lenga forests, crosses mountain streams and gradually gains elevation as the imposing granite walls of the Fitz Roy Massif begin to dominate the horizon.
As we leave the forest behind, the scenery opens into a true alpine environment shaped by glaciers, wind and thousands of years of geological history. Along the way, your guide will share the stories of the mountains, explain how this landscape was formed, identify the native flora and fauna, and recount the pioneering expeditions that helped establish El Chaltén as one of the world’s great mountaineering destinations.
Reaching Paso del Cuadrado is a reward reserved for those willing to leave the classic trails behind. From the pass, we enjoy an exceptional perspective of Fitz Roy, Poincenot, Saint Exupéry, Mermoz, and the surrounding glaciers and valleys—one of the most complete panoramic viewpoints in the region and a place few visitors ever experience.
After taking time to enjoy the landscape, rest, and have lunch surrounded by Patagonia’s wilderness, we begin our descent along the same route back to Puente Eléctrico, where our private transfer will be waiting to return us to El Chaltén.
This is more than a demanding day hike. It is an opportunity to experience a quieter side of Patagonia, guided by professionals who have spent decades exploring these mountains and who believe that every summit, every pass, and every trail has a story worth telling.
