We walk out of town into the Torre valley and stop at the viewpoint, the spire in front. Then we take the Madre e Hija lakes trail, which hardly anyone walks, with Fitz Roy reflected in the water. In the afternoon we reach the camp: the tent set up, the stove lit and a hot dinner.

We leave in the dark with headlamps: from the camp it is a little over an hour uphill. At the top, Fitz Roy turns red with the first light, before anyone from town arrives. We go down for breakfast at the camp and walk back to town past Laguna Capri.

Questions

What is the camp like?

It works like a seasonal mountain camp: set up in spring and taken down in autumn. Dinner and breakfast are in a heated dome and you sleep in tents already set up, with a pad and a sleeping bag. You carry none of that.

What goes in my pack?

Your mountain clothes, a headlamp and water. The tent, the sleeping bag and the food are already up there. We send you the list when you book.

When can I go?

From 15 October to 20 April, while the camp is set up.

Is the transfer from El Calafate included?

No: it starts and ends in El Chaltén. If you are coming from El Calafate, we add the transfer and a night in town.

Can the order of the days change?

Yes. We arrange it around the forecast: if a day looks very windy, we move the big hike to the best day.

Is it in a group or private?

You choose. On the group departures you walk with other hikers, up to 8 people, on the dates in the table. Private, the guide walks only with you, on the date you want.

What if I travel alone?

You join a group departure. If you would rather go private, you can: the price is in the table.

How fit do I need to be?

Able to walk 6 to 8 hours in a day, with climbs. No mountain experience needed. If in doubt, write to us and we will look at it.

How do I pay?

A deposit to confirm and the rest before the trip, in dollars or pesos. We send you the details on WhatsApp.
