The trek
Laguna Torre is where everyone stops. Carry on along the moraine for about 40 more minutes and the Grande Glacier is below you, with Cerro Torre in front.
We walk out of town on the Laguna Torre trail, through lenga forest and viewpoints, to the moraine above the lake, with icebergs in the water.

That is where most people turn back. We carry on along the crest of the moraine, on the north shore, with the lake on one side and the valley on the other. It is exposed to the wind: the guide decides whether we go on.
Mirador Maestri is the end of the trail: going further, towards the Grande Glacier or Paso Solo, is not allowed. We look down on the glacier, have lunch and walk back the same way.

Wind on the way
It is the first thing we check in the morning. Town can be calm while the lake is blowing hard, so we show both heights.

Laguna Torre and Mirador Maestri: questions
How is it different from Laguna Torre?
It is the same walk, plus a stretch along the moraine to Mirador Maestri, where you see the Grande Glacier from above. It adds about 40 minutes each way.
How far do you walk?
About 20.4 km there and back from town, with 660 m of total climbing. 8 to 9 hours.
Can you go on to the glacier?
No. Mirador Maestri is the end of the trail: going further, towards the Grande Glacier or Paso Solo, is not allowed.
Is the moraine stretch dangerous?
It is not technical, but it is narrow and very exposed to the wind. That is why the guide decides on the spot whether we go on.
Do you pay the Park fee?
Yes: it is inside Los Glaciares National Park. Since 1/6/2026 a day costs ARS 50,000 for foreign visitors and ARS 25,000 for Argentines, by QR or card (no cash). It is not included in the trek.
