OUR STORY
A Story Written in Patagonia’s Mountains
Since 1995, Fitz Roy Expediciones has been exploring, guiding and sharing the wild landscapes of El Chaltén.
Alberto del Castillo arrived in El Chaltén during the early years of the village, drawn by a place that was still wild and unknown to most travelers — a land of mountains, glaciers and endless landscapes.
Since then, he has dedicated much of his life to exploring Southern Patagonia, walking its valleys, discovering new routes and sharing these places with people from all over the world.
In 1995, he founded Fitz Roy Expediciones, one of the first adventure companies in the area. His years of experience in the mountains led to the creation of the Huemul Circuit, today recognized as one of Patagonia’s most remarkable multi-day treks.
Over the years, Alberto’s work has remained deeply connected to the region, not only through Fitz Roy Expediciones but also through Estancia Cristina, where as president he continues helping preserve and share the history, culture and landscapes of this unique corner of Patagonia.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND FRE
Alberto Del Catillo
founder
Founded in 1985 by Alberto del Castillo, Fitz Roy Expediciones was created from years spent exploring and working in the mountains of Southern Patagonia.
Alberto was part of the early days of El Chaltén, when many of the trails and mountain routes that are known today were still being discovered and explored. His experience in the region led to the creation of the Huemul Circuit, now one of Patagonia’s most recognized multi-day treks.
His work has always been closely linked to preserving and sharing Patagonia’s landscapes and history. Today, Alberto is also president of Estancia Cristina, one of the region’s most unique historical places.
Almost four decades later, Fitz Roy Expediciones continues with the same idea: creating authentic mountain experiences guided by local knowledge, respect for nature and a lifetime spent in Patagonia.
