Fitz Roy Expediciones grew from a life spent in the mountains around El Chaltén. The company was founded in 1995, but its knowledge began long before that — through exploration, mountain work and countless days moving through Patagonia.
Alberto del Castillo arrived during the early years of El Chaltén, when the village was still small and many mountain routes were being explored by the people living and working here.
Years of local exploration became a guiding company built around small groups, mountain judgment and direct knowledge of the terrain.
Alberto's experience across the region helped shape the Huemul Circuit — today one of the defining multi-day treks around El Chaltén and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
The same philosophy continues through a new generation of local guides: less noise, fewer people, better decisions and a deeper relationship with the place.

Alberto was part of the early years of El Chaltén, when Patagonia was still far less travelled and much of the mountain world around the village was being learned through experience.
In 1995 he founded Fitz Roy Expediciones, turning years of exploration and mountain work into a way of sharing the region with travelers from around the world.
His connection with Patagonia extends beyond guiding. Through his work with Estancia Cristina, that same relationship with landscape, history and conservation continues on the shores of Lago Argentino.

Josefina grew up in El Chaltén surrounded by the mountains that define Fitz Roy Expediciones. Hiking, climbing and skiing with her father gave her an instinctive relationship with the landscape from an early age.
As a mountain guide, she has explored remote areas of Patagonia and shared these places with travelers from around the world, combining local knowledge with experience gained in mountain cultures abroad.
Today she represents the continuity of FRE: a new generation with the same belief that a meaningful journey is built on judgment, patience, knowledge and respect for the mountain.
