Summer brings long daylight and milder temperatures, but wind, rapid cooling and sudden rain remain possible. Keep your protective layers in the pack even when the morning is clear.

Waterproof, windproof jacket with a hood
Fleece or light insulated midlayer
Quick-drying base layer—never cotton
Flexible, quick-drying hiking trousers
Broken-in trekking footwear with reliable grip
Comfortable daypack with internal dry storage

Three numbers matter more than the icon

Wind and gusts

Check gusts as well as average wind. Viewpoints, passes and ridgelines are more exposed than the village.
Temperature at elevation

The village value is not a trail or summit temperature. Keep a warm layer accessible, even when the morning feels mild.
Rain, cloud and visibility

A light-rain symbol does not describe visibility. Pack a waterproof shell and expect cloud around the mountains to change quickly.

Recheck the forecast on the morning of your trek.

Put your warm layer and waterproof shell near the top of your pack. Carry sun protection even under cloud, and follow the instructions of your FRE guide if conditions require a change of pace, timing or route.
