Our guides are experienced mountain professionals with an intimate knowledge of El Chaltén, the Fitz Roy Massif and Los Glaciares National Park.
They understand that guiding in Patagonia involves much more than following a trail. It means interpreting rapidly changing weather, assessing mountain conditions, adapting the pace of the day and making thoughtful decisions for every group.
All Fitz Roy Expediciones guides are qualified professionals and members of the Argentine Association of Mountain Guides (AAGM), working within the scope of their individual qualifications and the requirements of each itinerary.
The Argentine Association of Mountain Guides — Asociación Argentina de Guías de Montaña (AAGM) — is Argentina’s professional organization for mountain guides.
Our team includes guides with qualifications appropriate to the different activities we operate, from established trekking routes and remote multi-day traverses to technical mountain ascents.
For every departure, we select a guide whose professional qualification and experience correspond to the terrain, difficulty and technical requirements of the itinerary.

Fitz Roy Expediciones was founded in 1995 by Alberto del Castillo, whose connection with El Chaltén and its mountains dates back to 1985. Since then, local experience and knowledge passed between generations of guides have remained central to the way we work.
Our guides know the established trails, remote valleys, mountain passes and changing conditions of this region. This local knowledge allows them to make better decisions and to offer a deeper understanding of the landscape.
They can introduce you not only to the route, but also to the history, geology, wildlife and character of Patagonia.
We believe mountain experiences are better in small groups.
Smaller groups allow our guides to give closer attention to each guest, maintain a more consistent pace and adapt more easily when weather or trail conditions change. They also reduce our impact on the mountain environment and create a quieter, more personal experience.
Private guiding is also available for travellers who prefer an itinerary designed entirely around their own interests, experience and pace.
